It’s easy to get caught up in the “big stuff” you need to do to market your book, but there are a lot of great (and free) book marketing strategies that can move the needle, too.

These strategies, while seemingly simple, can really help boost your overall book exposure if they’re implemented regularly. And by “regularly” I mean, set some time aside each quarter to tackle these.

Let’s have a look at 5 free book marketing strategies I’m a huge fan of!

Adjust Your Amazon Keywords

It’s a good idea to check on your Amazon keywords and change these seasonally. With big holidays, and with the news cycle or popular culture, changing keywords can make a big difference in how you show up in Amazon’s search.

Amazon often changes how they interpret keywords. And they add new eBook categories, too, so once every quarter is a good time to refresh all of these!

Update Amazon Author Central

Update your Amazon Author Central account. Much like keywords, you should try to find unique ways to make your overall Amazon presence stand out. Adjust or change it with the change in seasons, around big holidays, with the news cycle as appropriate, or with changes in popular culture.

Amazon is always updating Author Central; new features are being added regularly (like the recent bilingual bio section) so checking these once a quarter is always a great idea!

Offer Discount eBook Promotions

There are a lot of free reader/newsletter sites where you can submit your discounts. Then, promote the discount in your newsletter, on social, and be sure to ask superfans to share, as well.

Release Free Bonus Content

Release some free bonus content. Think character deep dives, cutting room floor ideas and chapters, new ideas for upcoming storylines and books, or even worksheets or quizzes if you write non-fiction.

Remind your readers that you care about their experience and you’re in this for the long haul.

We provide a book marketing planner download that readers absolutely love. It’s like bonus content with a twist because this planner wasn’t necessarily from a book, but is a great tie-in for authors who want to plan out their upcoming book marketing strategies!

Trade Book Promotions with Other Authors

This is a super fun option! With an author similar to you, offer to swap features on each other’s social media or in your newsletters. This can be done for a new release or as part of your limited-time discount promotion.

The author swap is a great way for both of you to reach new readers. It’s also a really great way to network with similar authors.

Refreshing Your Book Marketing Strategies

Planning out quarterly book marketing strategies doesn’t have to be difficult or confusing–in fact, these five ideas are a great place to start and apply to any kind of author, regardless of genre. They’re also free, which is nice.
