Launching a book is a lot of work, and it can be insanely stressful! That’s why I loved this particular meme and thought most of you would get a good laugh out of it.

But in all seriousness, I know book sales keep some of us up at night and cause us to take other drastic measures, like giving up on marketing.

Launching a book shouldn’t be about sales though. I mean, yes, you write and publish a book to sell it and get it in readers’ hands, so sales are always a part of the equation. But if you focus on sales and numbers, instead of readers and humans, you’re going to miss the mark.

Launching a Book for Humans vs. Sales

90% of books are bought via word of mouth, which means the human element of being a successful author cannot be ignored.

Your brand and your books need to connect with people.

That means having an engaging website, getting comfortable with the right social media, maintaining a presence on Goodreads, building a newsletter list, nailing everything on Amazon, the list goes on.

And that means we circle back to stress eating. Just kidding! But it is hard to keep it all organized and to stay consistent. And consistently effective strategies are what lead to sales.

So get organized! Create a book marketing plan before launching a book, use our free download, keep yourself accountable to execute thoughtful, pre-determined marketing strategies every month, and you can rest assured you’re on the right path.

And you can save the tacos, and a margarita, for taco night.
