Beauty is in the eye of the beholder — but the best book marketing begins with the best book cover when it comes to how to sell books.
It’s not easy and it’s certainly not cheap to have a great cover designed, but the payout afterward, when your handcrafted cover draws in readers, is worth it. Readers aren’t asking solely for the most beautiful, most creative covers. However, covers grab their attention. It’s their first chance to see what this book is like.
If a reader looks at a book and sees a not-so-great cover that little care was put into, then that’s their expectation for the text in most cases.
Crucial Book Cover Design Details for the Best Book Marketing
It’s all in the details. From font design to illustration, everything on the cover plays a role in how your book is perceived.
Think of the best cover in your genre — what is it doing right? What caught your attention? Though you always want to be different and creative with your cover, drawing from the bestsellers in your genre is an easy way to know others will like your cover, too.
And don’t skimp. Anywhere. Hire the photographers, enlist the designers, and wait for the return on your investment.
When considering how to sell books for a new release or a title that’s not doing too well, first look at your cover. In my last blog post, I spoke about the importance of a great cover for the best book marketing. Now, here are my tips for achieving one.
