I don’t usually post book marketing inspirational stuff, but I feel like every now and again we could all use a shot in the arm (a little vaccine pun there) of motivation. And a reminder to refocus to help us achieve our goals as a self-published author.
So often we peruse social media and think: I’m not doing nearly as well as that author over there. Or: I feel like I’m a failure, my book hasn’t done as well.
The truth is, most of us don’t share our failures on social media. Facebook is often a mirror of the unrealistic. Who wants to showcase the low points? Not many.
Keep your motivation in check and get off of social media. Stop comparing yourself to other authors because you don’t know their real struggle. You don’t know what they’ve failed at this week, how many tries, or the different book marketing strategies it took them to get to where they are.
The only person you have to compete with is YOU. So keep this quote handy, and keep your book marketing spirits high!
I would love to know what helps to keep you focused and motivated as a self-published author. Feel free to share below.

Perfect pandemic pun, Penny. 🙂
I detest the book marketing scene.
Social media is a time suck, but it’s a necessary evil as long as we limit our time scrolling and sharing. During the pandemic, sites like Facebook and Twitter help many homebound writers engage with human beings.
I wonder what the world will look like next April …
Thank you Penny for sharing inspirational stuff we really motivated after reading your post very efficiently written information. It will be beneficial to anybody who utilizes it, including me. Keep up the good work.
