National Library Lover’s Month is a favorite of ours at AME, we’ve done a number of blog posts and podcast episodes dedicated to helping authors find creative ways to work with their local libraries, and enhance their local promotions and sales.
According to the website National Day Calendar:
National Library Lover’s Month in February is dedicated to the people who love whole buildings devoted to reading, housing, organizing, categorizing, finding, studying, and otherwise loving books.
- Libraries provide educational entertainment for kids of all ages.
- Many communities rely on their libraries for meeting space for public forums, socials, fundraisers, and classes.
- They provide resources for researching family and community heritage.
- Libraries lend other media like movies and music.
- They offer digital resources for the entire community to use.
Many libraries provide rotating art displays that give local artists exposure to the community, and often go all out to create special events throughout the year.
Larger libraries also provide preservation services, caring for some of the most treasured books, periodicals, and documents for future generations.
As authors we know book marketing and promotion really isn’t supposed to stop, it’s a year-round job even if we’re not always excelling at it, so I say, don’t waste the opportunities libraries can create for you.
If we don’t take advantage of what’s practically being handed to us, we shouldn’t really complain about our lack of exposure or sales!
