What's a Platform?

In the publishing industry, platform is code for "built in sales," by this we mean the specifics that an author brings to a particular project relative to expertise, media experience, perhaps a business - basically it's the authors ability to sell the book. Keep in mind that recognition on a national level for who you are relative to your credentials is important. If you have books that have sold, that's part of your platform too. If you're trying to build platform, it's also a bad idea to switch genres or topics because it's important to vest yourself or do your due diligence within a particular market
